Leah, you sound like a thoughtful daughter. I was in your Mom's position 7 years ago when I was first widowed, and it can be very daunting, to say the least. There are SO many issues that come up, completely apart from the obvious grieving process. I too was miles away from family, and had it not been for great friends it would have been almost impossible to cope.

I think you can help your Mom a great deal just by being a sounding board, and if you can point her to a few good resources, so much the better. Please do tell her about this site. There's another fabulous resource at which addresses many of the emotional issues and is a veritable gold mine of info.

I'm hoping that on this site, folks will share how they managed ALL the issues, monetary and otherwise. Tell your Mom that in no way is she alone....our numbers are legion. But we do get through time.
