NoIDAtAll,

I can't even imagine where you folks live and work. Must be an otherwise special place to keep going back there on a daily basis.

To be honest I never thought about it as we were only allowed to use departmental issued ammo in our service guns and could only carry a smaller version of the same gun off duty so I used the same ammo then too. We were initially issued Winchester Black Talons until that whole hulabaloo erupted over the name and their killing power.

When Winchester finally stopped making Talons we switched to their Ranger SXT. I had thought it was our own little joke, but I see from this Wikipedia entry it is apparently well-known, but we used to say that the SXT meant the bullets were the "Same Xact Thing" as the Talons without black coating.

In going over the Internet then to find out what might be a good ammo with the most stopping power, because that's essentially what you want your ammunition to do -- stop the attack (okay, brain splatter might be up there too depending upon the nature of the attack) -- I found this little article that discusses the stopping power of various types of ammo. I can't verify the veracity of what is said, but it certainly has a true ring to it.

I happen to be one of those who believes a well-armed populace is a well-protected populace, but that view doesn't always carry the day. So whatever decision you make, use caution and care, and as we cops like to tell one another, make sure you're able to go home to your family at the end of the day.
