The mistake that bothers me the most is when people use words without knowing what they mean. They often misuse words that sound fancy to try to impress people. I see this frequently with my students. The best example of this is from a paper I got several years ago about the KKK. The student wrote:

"The members of the Klan would use other methods other [sic] than violence to inflict suffrage upon their victims." I love this image.

The student made a another mistake in the paper where he used the wrong word.

"Many Blacks lost their lives and many others were scared to even leave their homes because of the presents of the KKK."

Interesting images.
