Not sure how to answer since I don't own any Alcoa.

A lot of aluminum is recycled, as I once worked for a company that did the recycling nationally of aluminum cans, siding etc for Alcoa. From that standpoint they are really green. The fact that it takes lots of electricity to process can be less than green (coal fired plants to generate). Best bet would be to get an annual report and read the notes and fine print. I would guess that fact that they are part of the Dow 30 shouldn't have weight in your decision.
