not007: "A relative died recently (84 years old). Going through his estate, he had an account with a broker worth about 1.2 million now that shows that the 15 stocks in it are ALL in thinly traded stocks of banks here in the North East. The statement shows they were bought at a value of 1.5 million."

First, my condoleneces on your lost.

Second, any chance that your relative had been a banker before retirement? If yes, he might have been been buying in a market slice where he knew more than the average person. Furthermore, he may even know (or have mentored) some of the people currently running those smaller, northeastern banks.
