Now at age 32 I look back at my credit reports
and I've got nothing but seven years of on-time payments. The old negative things have finally fallen off the record. I've got
good history, low balances, one address of record, one employee of record, etc.

Well why then is my FICO a 698 when I have NEVER had any late payments of any sort?... I have paid off a car loan and have had credit cards since 1992. I have never let CC debt get out of hand and in fact periodically call the CC company (only one card now) to reduce my limit as they are always upping it...

I did have a Citibank card for 7 years or so and I thought they were treating me shabbily considering how long I had been with them. (I kept a small balance at that time for "building my credit history" and thought they were charging me too much... I am constantly being wooed by teaser offers and even better longer term rates.) When I called to cancel my card the rep "warned" me that keeping their card would make my credit history look better. Well I cancelled anyway. My history of on time payments is on my credit report so I do not see why it should matter... Oh, and I have some student loans in deferment.

Any ideas why my FICO score is this low? Could it be because I am still a renter? Or that I changed careers and have been at my current employer for 3 years now?
