Nortel Networks wins Ofek tender to set up communications infrastructure in competition with Bezeq Efi Landau05.11.2000 17:17 Tomorrow, at the Telecom 2000 exhibition, the Ofek group and Nortel Networks will announce an agreement, according Nortel “preferred supplier” status in setting up and integrating an inland communications systems in competition with Bezeq. The tender is worth an estimated $700 million. In the past eighteen months, Ofek meticulously examined the technology of a number of international equipment suppliers bidding to be the integrator of its systems. The examination process included a complex trial held in Ariel, in which the bidders invested millions of dollars. In the final stage of the tender, Nortel bid against Alcatel of France. Cisco, Lucent and Siemens were dropped at an earlier stage. Overall, Ofek plans to invest $1 billion in setting up the network. Published by Israel's Business Arena on 5 November, 2000
