PIE, 124 Fourth Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets (212-475-4977).Just tried this place last night and the food was yummy, and cheap! The best part it that they cut the slice by scissors to what ever size you want so you can sample several types with minimal commitment. Dinner, with a drink cost me and my two friends between $4 and $7 each, since cost is determined by weight.Read this review that was posted on Daily Candy NYC:Why does everyone love pizza? Is it the cheese? The sauce? The crust? Whatever the secret combination, there's a reason why this instant gratifier destroys diets and fuels parties in equal measure. Jeff Reiss, the former general manager at 60 Thompson, is so obsessed with the stuff he decided to open a mod pizza shop near Union Square. But PIE is no Famous Original Ray's knockoff. Instead of selling by the slice, PIE sells pizza by the pound. (Yes, a sick joke for our carb-phobic times, but that's how they do it in Rome.) Sure, PIE has pepperoni and mozzarella, but so does every Tony, Joey, and Marco. Try a cut of potato, ricotta, mozzarella, and walnuts with a touch of rosemary. Or the brunch pie, with bacon, egg, and cheese. Since there's no need to commit to full slices, you can sample as many combinations as you want. Just leave room for the Nutella, ricotta, and banana dessert pie. Dine in a dash, order delivery, or camp out at the communal table in the back. Oh. In case you're wondering, one pound really is too much pizza for one person. Control yourself, for God's sake.
