We are everywhere man. Obama was not supposed to get us into any other countries, remember! Out of Iraq but INTO Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, Sudan, oh my or my.

American officials familiar with the operation said the mission also includes drawing up plans to try to insulate Jordan, an important American ally in the region, from the upheaval in Syria and to avoid the kind of clashes now occurring along the border of Syria and Turkey

But shush now, it is supposed to be a secret, until after the election, so tell no one else.

That's why it appeared as a story in the New York Times

The NYT said it was secretly being done....would they lie?

Maybe they figured many of the Obama voters don't read so much....?

WASHINGTON — The United States military has secretly sent a task force of more than 150 planners and other specialists to Jordan to help the armed forces there handle a flood of Syrian refugees, prepare for the possibility that Syria will lose control of its chemical weapons and be positioned should the turmoil in Syria expand into a wider conflict.

And you don't think that this headline is being managed by Washington??

Second.... do you disagree with the mission?......."to help the armed forces there handle a flood of Syrian refugees, prepare for the possibility that Syria will lose control of its chemical weapons and be positioned should the turmoil in Syria expand into a wider conflict?"

Or should we have simply climbed in a hole and pretended like the whole middle east is not falling apart?

Its one of the few countries without rioting and burning since Obama took office .... so much for that. Hope he beefs up military personnel at the embassy

Through the years, there has been sporadic rioting and burning in that country... and I would imagine that with a civil war raging right next door... with spillover violence into Lebanon..... that there will be more rioting and burning.

Should we disengage? Pull out? Leave a long time ally to its own devices?

You tell me.

I would be willing to bet that we have so much equipment left over from Iran, stored in Saudi Arabia, we could go anywhere in the Middle East we want with a couple days notice

Obama gets desperate, there is always that old adage that a sitting president does not get voted out of office during war time.

I would think that the purpose of sending this planning group- is to prevent the situation from deteriorating to the point where we needed to send in heavy armor.

I would be curious as to what our "planning group" could do to prevent anything from happening in a Middle East country

Well for Christmas this year I am hoping for the Palin exercise video/DVD/Book and the sit-up board. Other than that not much else occupying my mind, how about you?

Ho-hum, more military advisors in more countries in the Middle East. Good thing Bush isn't in office because this was be seen by many as quite different than what you are now trying to defend. Change indeed....or is it?

2012, you decide.

I was kind of hoping for that new Bush punching bag. Every time you hit it on the sweet spot or merely just walk into the same room it say, ouch it's my fault, don't blame Barrack.

Shouldn't the UN then be helping, and not just the US?

Unless they're paying us directly for it, we can't afford to be the world's police department.

Can we treat the country like an isolated cancer, and simply leave it alone?

Is it in our interests to do that?

My guess is that we can't.

And here is yet another unintended consequence of AIPAC's "New American Century" which kicked off with our invasion of Iraq.

The hope was that it would initiate a series of uprisings in the middle east that led to regimes that were pliant to U.S. policies and demands.

Seems not to be working out that way.

Let's blame Obama.

Change, yes...not so much.

WMD are they there?, are they deliverable?, ae they a direct threat to the USA?....so many thresholds that were previously put there are now magically gone.

The SNL writers must be moonlighting at the NYT again.

Imagine, to be expected to do this, yet Obama cannot protect an Ambassador whose people asked for more security and was declined/not answered?

You just cannot make this stuff up.

Sad.

Certainly true... but how does one manage a strategic withdrawal from an area of the world that we have played such a dominant role in screwing up?

It does get complicated. But that's why Obama was elected, he was to stop this nonsense and end the wars we had, not disburse our military into ever more countries while bombing people with drones.

Amazing how clear things become, and how insanely complex they get, once your elected leader is handling things.
