Of COURSE they "will do whatever they can within the law to collect their money". Thats their JOB !

As for you "controlling the situation", thats going to be met with some resistance because if you had controlled the situation in the past, your account would NOT be with an agency.

In general, the collector wants as much as possible as soon as possible. They will do pretty much everything to get you to pay it in full right away, but in most cases, people cannot.
In that case, the collector wants you to commit to and make montly payments that are both reasonable and affordable. If you do that, you should be fine.The collector just wants you to pay what you agreed each month so he doesnt have to spend any time on you.
If your payment is due each month on the 10th and after the morning mail comes on the 10th and your payment is not there, you will be called. Thats called a "broken promise".
If you are ever going to be even a day late, CALL. It shows you care about taking care of your obligation and if you are going to be a few days late, that will be ok and you wont be called.
