oh wait! they didn't want you back in 6 months? mine does, it's a pain and sometimes I've stalled coming in...cancelling appts.Yeah that's what the dentists want here too-every 6 months. No cash discounts around here that I could find.Last December I went to the dermatologist for discoloration on my face & a cancer spot on the back of my neck which I suspected was a basal cancer.. 30 years workng outside many of them without a hat or sunblock. Spots were Actinic Keratoses-precancerous cells. The doctor told me the treatment I should have. I said "How much?". His reply "You have insurance do you?" Obviously he knew I had insurance as I completed a medical history & acknowledged that I had BCBS coverage. My reply "Yeah, but I have a $5000 ded; I need a price." "Is the treatment under a grand?" He said yeah so we proceeded. I used a topical cream Flouroplex which basically killed the diseased skin cells & peeled the top layer of my skin off my face. $400 bucks for that medicine. And it cost me $485 for 1) removal & biopsy of neck basal cancer spot 2)office co-pays 3)some nitrogen touch up on face actinic keratose spots. So $885. I "saved" about 1/3 on the $485 part due to BSBC negotiated fee schedule.During the last visit; he wanted me to come back every three months for preventative check ups. No f*#!ing way! Now I know why his waiting room is packed. We have to remember that doctors are businesspersons too. Now this doctor was very good in clearing up my problem. But then he wanted me on his cash flow sheet. Is it possible that quarterly check up could catch a potentially fatal development? Sure. But is it probable? Hell no! Life is risk. We are not in control of our lifes & everyone dies. I'm not spending mucho time or dinero in doctors/dentists offices. I gonna LIVE life.
