i think it's not a 'monitor' thing ... it's a 'window' thing.

these fancy new browsers (and OSs) let the user set the size of the window ... and we users have just run amok.

people with large monitors may tend to use larger windows --and they now see oceans of white space.

people with small monitors are forced to use a smaller window --and they're losing the right hand side of ever page ..

*i* have a large monitor ..but like a smaller window (850 pix, so i can easily get to other browser windows and other applications ..
Thing is ..... i'm getting used to it.

it's a bit surprising how little there is on the right hand side ...
i don't see "Announcements" on message pages;
i can't Reply from "Replies to Posts";
i can't Remove from "Saved for Later";
i can't read about 16% of each post in "Whole Thread".

( so far ...might be missing other things, but haven't yet noticed at all )

but those are ALL minor annoyances. Nothing when balanced against the importance of "Consistency"

we often say, "it's THEIR sandbox." ... i see this as "Sand is too difficult to maintain" or "Sand provides an INconsistent experience vis a vis the rest of the city" ...so they paved over the sandbox. In time, we'll all become accustomed to the asphalt sandbox .
