Ok, I found out that the roth can be transferred in pieces (i.e. not all at once). My follow up question is am I able to transfer an amount of funds so that I get close to but not higher than the next income tax bracket (in order to minimize taxes)? My gut feeling from the previous responses is "yes". ThanksYes, If you sell and transfer cash you can do it to the penny, if you know your income. If you move shares the value will be the market value on the date that the funds were moved and this could be a couple of weeks different from what you asked for.
