OK quick summary.

There are a lot of companies that a lot of data & applications sitting on large mainframe systems.

Generally speaking these applications could be anything up to around 25-30 years old.

Needless to say these applications/systems were not designed with the web, B2B(business to business) or B2C (business to consumer) in mind.

Jacada have come up with a solution to this problem. They have an interface, written in Java (also an exposed API), which allows web applications to send data to and from these systems.

Here is the important bit, this all happens in a non-invasive way i.e. the legacy systems need not be altered or re-written.

Jacada runs mainly (willing to be corrected here) on IBM mainframes such as AS/400's hence IBMs interest in the whole deal.

Hope this helps.
