Okay, I'm back (From where, is a separate thread) to resume this oily discussion :)

I'm really not sure what sort of volume is handled by ship and if there is sufficient
east coast refining capacity. Methinks most of it goes by pipeline?

I don't know the full answer either. But I think one needs to separate crude oil from
refined products. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I could see PADD 3 (which includes
Texas and Louisiana) being a net exporter on the refined products side.

As far as the vessel numbers, IIRC, the number of Jones Act vessels number less than 90.
That figure includes ships, barges and ATBs (Articulated Tug Barges). My understanding is
that they are mostly carrying refined products, not crude oil.
