Okay, you've succeeded in bringing me from out of the shadows. Let me first say that I've enjoyed reading what has happened in the last month or so, and am ready to throw my support behind the LA Fools (only the greatest city in this great state :-) ). But enough of that for now:

That's why my kids go to Catholic school here. My son had a spelling test every friday. Spelling is also a graded subject on the report card. The public schools in this area don't care. Too much is time for music, p.e., and talking about feelings

I can not disagree more. I spent my entire school life in public schools (during the late 70's and all of the 80's). Now I will be the first to admit that schools are different but I think that your painting the schools with much to big a brush. Each school is the sum of its parts and is as much a reflection of the community at large as it is of the school administration.

I see you think that too much time is being spent on music and other things. Music students as a whole are much better students that those who don't participate. The same could probably be said about art student and other similar activities. These programs are being decreased and emphasis is being moved.

I respect your choice of a Catholic school for your kids. They are good choices for education if that's what you want. There is a good public school education out there for your child if you are truly interested in involving yourself in what is going on rather than complaining about the problem and expecting other to fix it.
