I want to set up a SEP with my broker at Edward Jones. If I do this can I buy Vangaurd Index 500 with the money in the SEP?

Brokerages don't like carrying Vanguard because they don't get fat commissions or fees or whatever new kickback scheme is in effect. Some brokers just don't do it (Quick & Reilly, for example), some do it through a "special program" that skims a front-load off for you. You'll need to find out what Edward Jones does, but I'm not optimistic.

If my pessimism turns out to be realism, you have two simple choices I can think of. Open the SEP directly with Vanguard or buy S&P Depository Receipts (spiders) instead. See the Harry Jones Portfolio if you need more information about spiders.
