On $1400 a month, you may not qualify for food stamps or subsidized rent but there would be few extras. My mother in law had that income level near Washington, DC and she paid about half for a mediocre 1 bedroom senior apartment that included a meal a day. Medical insurance, medical bills, food, clothes, and phone chewed up most of the rest.
