One black couple I know said just the opposite when they moved from the North to the South.

Hard for me to understand why. We had minorities in my grade school, high school, and college. I played with minorities on my Little League team and my Boy Scout troop. It would have been better with total segregation, as it was in the South?

I remember being equally amazed about Yankee's preoccupation with religion as I never recalled anyone ever asking "What religion are you?" when I grew up in the South.

I now live in Tennessee. I have been asked that question at least a half dozen times since I've been here. After doing a small favor for someone in a shopping center parking lot (returning their cart while they took care of crying kids) "that's mighty Christian of you." My wife, who was raised Jewish, has been asked why she hasn't converted.
