One good thing I've noticed so far watching MSNBC's stream online. (I suspect this applies to the others too but haven't checked them out yet)

When they break for commercials you don't get the commercials!!
They run a loop of promos for their other shows and such. These are promos I saw only occasionally on the TV. This would appear to mean that the stream is authorized and not just a "hack" into their broadcast feed

That and the fact that NBC et al are huge corps who probably police any unauthorized use of their signals and could shut this down in 24 hours if they wanted to

The down side is I don't get as many channels over the air as I thought I would. I used the local TV Guido listing as my guide to likely channels.
Plus, one of the channels with 2 sub-channels goes off at midnight. It looks like they just reduce power but I am not far from the antenna so I don't see why I would lose everything at the stroke of midnight.

I've tried a passive rabbit ear+loop type antenna and a newer flat faced amplified antenna and the results are the same.
