One has to get into the habit of writing those checks every month year in and year out.

That's why I love on-line banking and automatic withdrawals. I just don't get into habits like that. Before I banked on line and could set up automatic bill payment, I'd often get late notices and (gulp) fees from creditors, utility companies, stuff like that. Now? No sweat. I set it up and forget about it.
