One important lesson that DB taught was that IBD ain't the bible. Its a newspaper and it needs to sell newspapers. Just because stock ABC is listed in there doesn't make it a CANSLIM candidate. I think a lot of friction was caused between some posters and DB when someone would post stock ABC which they read about in IBD only to have it shot down by DB and others. I'm one year into CANSLIM and it hasn't made me much money because there just haven't been many candidates, but the system has taught me discipline and thanks to DB, it has led me down different paths of investing and trading that I never thought possible.Maybe DB was a little too harsh, but it was for everyone's good. He may have created a monster by being that way however because it frustrated people who didn't want to participate in constructive criticism or evaluation of a stock. People got offended if no one answered a post which says, "I saw XYZ in IBD and it looks like a CANSLIM stock. Opinions please." That just didn't fly back in DB's day and for good reason. Its a cry for help from someone who doesn't want to put in the work. Its also doing yourself a disservice by not doing the research. Maybe along the way of crunching numbers and really looking deep into that formation that you realize that the CANSLIM model just doesn't fit who you want to be as an investor or trader? Or maybe along the way the poster might even...gulp...learn something new?
