One point that is confusing this discussion is that search works differently on the public boards compared to the private boards that are part of paid services. For example, the feature mentioned where the initial search started within a board is limited to that board, but the initial result set has a check box that lets you change that, only applies to the paid boards.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. If you are saying the feature where you can limit your search to only that board but then if you want to expand it to all boards by changing the choice in the check box is only for paid boards, then that would be incorrect. I can do it on the public boards.
