On June 8th, 2012, I made this post where after 8 years, I got my CC balance down to $0:

It is now one year later and I'm happy to say that my CC balance is still $0. I am no longer carrying a balance from month to month at all. There are regular expenses but they are paid off every 2 weeks. During this time, my savings has gone up and if there are any big purchases, there is definitely cash in the bank to pay for them. After living with debt hanging over my head for so long, I almost don't know what to do with myself! It's a very good feeling and I'm continuing to live within my means and to not buy stuff unless I have the cash in the bank already. I hope this continues.

Thanks for the support (and tough love at times).

Wonderful to hear that you're a year into living without carrying a balance on the cards beyond the due date.

Have you set a savings goal (for a trip/retirement/some splendid possession)?

My retirement savings has gone up significantly in the last year as well as my cash reserves. I'm saving up for a move that will likely happen in the next 1-2 years and I would like to have a 20% down payment in cash when I do. But the bottom line is just increasing my cash reserves for whatever comes up next.

Doing everything I can to catch up to you, but it will be a long, long road. ($242k in debt, including the house - at least it is all below 5% fixed forever.)

congrats on the continued determination! i'm finding myself much more motivated to make smart financial decisions now that i've joined you in zero balance land.

it really feels good to pay yourself every month instead of a faceless corporation, right?

*high five*
