You might remember my post a couple months back. We started construction on a customized tract home (i.e., we got to modify the floor plan significantly and pick out everything) back in January. Then, April 1, my DW was laid off. At the time, I wasn't sure what to do and posted here if we should just charge ahead - the alternative was losing a 5% downpayment. We decided to charge on ahead. The old house was 1389 sq. ft., the new one is 3200+. The new mortgage is also about 3x the old one. The monthly payment is a stretch on just my paycheck (50% of net), but we have ver little other debt and a good cushion to work with in case we have a some bad months while she looks for her next job.Anyway, I'm typing on my PC in my fully networked dream home and wouldn't have it any other way. If you are looking to build, I am going to post the more than a few things I learned during the process on the home building board tomorrow after I get a good nights sleep and (hopefully) retrieve my wallet from the U-Haul I locked it in tonight when I dropped the truck off after hours.www.craddockfamily.com
