We are trying out a new rental on Craig Creek in Oriskany VA. It's the third place we try on Craig Creek, though not all in Oriskany, and I have to say that so far it is my fave. That's saying something, considering we came down here in "severe weather." Boy, understatement of the week, that. We were just past Verona VA when a tornado came through that town, and someone died in a flash flood just north of there. The mountain roads were flooded in at least two places on our trek to the cabin. Yup, rain was serious. We finally made it to the cabin, and found that the creek was insanely swollen. Eh, what does one expect from flowing water? The changing nature of the creek/river is part of the charm. The creek has decreased significantly since we arrived on Sat. and I even saw a river otter today. The eagles we've seen, and the wild turkeys we've heard were not driven away by the rain. Three cars went past this morning. It was rush hour.Last night we cooked hot dogs and cheese burgers out on the wood fire. Eldest brought out the low tech scrabble, and we played for well over an hour, laughing hysterically. That's what I love from these rentals. Time to bond!IP
