About every other year I spend $100 for an updated Morningstar Principia Pro, which has a wealth of information on around 12,000 mutual funds. It has a moderately sophisticated search mechanism and it is always fun to see who wins the "worst performer of the decade" award. And this year it goes to (drum roll ..................)

US Global Inv Gold Shares (USERX)!! This fund is the model of consistency having lost money in every year in the 1990's except 1993. This is a no-load fund with a most affordable expense ratio of 5.74%. $10,000 invested in USERX on Jan. 1, 1991 would have been worth $869 on March 31, 2001. Obviously now is the time to get in on the ground floor as it looks like it has moved up around 10% in April alone.

BTW, there is still around $19M invested in this fund.

Your friendly financial advisor,

dave
