Hi Jim.

I have the annual EPS figures for the 1700
or so VL companies in excel and I am trying
to narrow the list down to those that have
the most predictable/consistent/stable
earnings regardless of rate of growth.
...assuming these are the ones I can count
on to arrive at a reasonable estimate 5 to
10 years out.

What formulas/metrics would be reasonable
to accomplish my task? STDEV doesn't seem
to be a good one on its own.

There needs to be some sort of scaling as
the AAPL, NVR, WPOs of the world get
punished for large absolute EPS.

In addition, I have smoothed the yearly figures
(averaging back-to-back years) and also
created shorter-term 3- to 4-Year intervals
to check for consistency there as well.

Any thoughts would be very much
appreciated. Thanks for your time.

John
