As you all know I'm a fan of Waze, the free navigation app for Android/iOS. I've only used it on iOS so that's all I can speak to as far as reliability, but it's my go-to navigation app for a reason. There was something missing though: sharing travel routes/arrival times/etc. I downloaded another app (Twist) in order to be able to tell people (my wife, my mom, etc.) when I'd be arriving. That means I was running TWO GPS apps (Waze and Twist) during long trips. But no more! Waze now lets you alert others to your estimated arrival time, share routes, etc.! Who would use that? Well, it would have come in handy for me in September when we went to Frankenmuth for Oktoberfest. My mom lives in a different city (different county actually!) so we agreed to meet up at a spot just off I-75 North at the Frankenmuth exit. I had to run Twist for the estimated arrival time, and ran Waze so I could update it with any issues I saw on the road (speed traps, road hazards, etc., part of the real-time social aspect of the program). But with the new Waze upgrade all I would have had to do is share my trip with my mom and she could have seen where we were at any given moment, how far behind them we were, etc.!I'm still thinking either Apple or Google is going to buy out Waze one of these days, it just has too many features their native navigation apps lack. I'm hoping it's Apple (since I'm an iPhone user of course). But again I have to recommend Waze highly to those who have smartphones and drive regularly. It's a must-have app IMHO (and it's still 100% free!).
