Our current planet's condition can attest that yes, humanity is depraved. Totally, partially well this likely has to do with the amount of Christians around when measurements are made (my personal and undocumented opinion).

Anyway, not being familiar with reformed doctrine, I had to look it up. I thougth the following would help those ignorant Fools like me wishing to participate:

According to calvinism salvation is accomplished by the almighty power of the triune God. The Father chose a people, the Son died for them, the Holy Spirit makes Christ's death effective by bringing the elect to faith and repentance, thereby causing them to willingly obey the Gospel. The entire process (election, redemption, regeneration) is the work of God and is by grace alone. Thus God, not man, determines who will be the recipients of the gift of salvation.

I dicern by what I read so far that I must be one of those arminians (note: not Armenians, indo-europeans) that Rick is talking about. Although being quite ignorant on maters of religion, I have yet to understand the relevance of this. I will continue to read as I find this interesting and essential for my growth as a Christian, and respecting Rick's wish I will try to join the discussion without bringing my arminian ideas in. (how the heck do I do this? until today I did not even know I was arminian!)

So far I am in agreement. Great idea for a forum!
