Our home was foreclosed on this year. We filed a BK because of my illness and resulting in a reduced work schedule for me.

No advice about taxes, except to remind you that if you have a $100 deduction and are in, say, the 28% bracket, you save $28 in taxes, but you're out a net of $72. IOW, make sure that your deductions are something you want to spend money on, because the savings are illusory.

As you get back on your financial feet, remember also that your income will probably get less stable as you age. You might find some helpful hints for contingency planning on the Budgeting and Living Below Your Means boards.
