Pain Quotidien's dark roast

that was my coffee when I lived in NYC.


They've made the roast lighter. As they admitted to me. Very meh when on its own now--at least with our coffee-making setup. But it adds something significant to my blend.


As for French press--I'm very happy with our ancient Krups drip machine and gold filter. I suspect that using the gold filter instead of paper may produce coffee more like what you get with a French press, because there is no paper to absorb the oils.
