Paris

Cold rainy day. Up early, 0500 off to Saint Pancras International for a 0705 Eurostar to Paris. A light brioche, soft goat cheese with strawberry jam, soft drinkable too sweet Bizarro Euro-Yogurt takes the harsh edge off the early hours. Drifted off under the channel.
Pulled into Gare du Nord, waded through a gaggle of gypsies, found a taxi to take all four of us to the 7eme Arrondissement. Usually 4 people with beaucoup baggage is cause for taxi driver to commit hate crimes on tourists. Our guy was actually wonderful. My French was awful but got the job done.

Too early to check in, off to a salad lunch in Place Dauphine where a salad frizzee, pine nuts, apple, and warm cheese slice of heaven had their way with me. Heavy cold autumn rain back with a vengeance, drove us back over the Seine, to the hotel where we finally checked into wonderful 17th century accommodations with ultra modern appointments.
DW and DIL felt compelled to have their hair done in the salon next door. Took DS to Notre Dame, lit a candle, said a prayer, popped back over the river to Place Maubert, showed him a row of shops: poisson, fromagerie, bucherie, patisserie, charcuterie, etc. It overwhelmed my son, I had to sit him down in the cafe next door and share some beers. DIL texted that they were hair appropriate and ready for wine and cheese at the hotel.

Love the vitality, intensity, and tenacious grip on life these people have. The food, the wine, of course, are fabulous...an art form really. The chill in the air, the diffuse light, the fallen leaves...
Need to pop into the Musee Cluny to check out some medieval art tapestries and Roman artifacts.

Dinner time around the corner, Roti Lapin.

Someone keep me posted on Slow Joe vs. Ryan tonight and how my Yankees are doing.
