pauleckler mentioned problems with Dynex Capital preferreds. Dynex is a mortgage REIT, not one that owns rental real estate. I should have made clearer that my remarks concerned only equity REITs, those which own rental real estate.

Like all investments, REIT preferreds have risk. A person should only invest in preferreds of companies with strong financial condition.

Thanks, pauleckler, for pointing out the DX problems. Mortgage REITs, IMO, have a much much higher risk than equity REITs, so I avoid them.
