Paying the tax with WITHHOLDING by 12/31 will eliminate any underpayment penalties. An installment payment only stops the penalty from accruing further. See the rules on page one of form 2210. If you income was higher later in the year, or you have a carryover loss or other big deduction that occurred early on, use the Annuzulized Income Method of form 2210. ed
