Letter to the editor in today's Post Dispatch.

October is open enrollment for the Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan. For the first time, I was able to decline coverage for contraception and sterilization.

Throughout my childbearing years, I planned the size of my family and the spacing of my children without resorting to drugs or devices. I neither need nor want artificial contraception and sterilization in my life.

Thank you legislators for empowering me as an individual and a woman to be able to follow the dictates of my conscience and convictions. My objection to the tyranny of Health and Human Services mandate within the Affordable Care Act is not bogus.

Joanne M. Schrader • Fulton, Mo.
