Perhaps with more of a "we're in this together, let's set some goals and work toward them" mindset some improvements could come forth.

That only seems to work on paper for me! My husband says, "Yes. I want a house! I want a new car! I want a Sony Playstation! I want to eat out tonight!"

He starts out agreeing that we should save up for a house (or whatever) and then realizes he has more immediate "needs". It's very, very frustrating!
