Personally, I am an agnostic when it comes to stock splits. I think of Warren Buffett and how stocks that he owns (Wells Fargo, Wash Post and certainly Berkshire!) have not split for some time. I owned US Bancorp b4 it merged with First Bank, and it seems the synergy will pay off for this bank, if not in 98 then in 99. It's just a matter of time before USB is mentioned in the same breath as such regional powerhouses as Nations, First Union, Key, etc. A great long term hold!
