Personally, I feel far more uplifted when people do good things for other people rather than rely on supernatural forces to make things right.

People can do both. When I was on a medical mission trip to Africa, I noticed that nearly all the aid groups were the types you would expect to pray as *part* of their effort. Plus, the couple of non-religious aid groups were still populated with religious people.
