Personally, I think the government should get rid of its debt, just like the people here should. I'm just not holding my breath.

I agree--we would be better off if Congress (the opposite of progress?) could run the government within its means instead of borrowing.

To show how unconvinced I am of the federal government getting out of debt, I actually own a piece of the national debt! (I have a $500 I-Series Savings Bond and about $10,000 in a short-term government bond fund.) You might even say that this is good debt. (It's good for me because it is paying me interest, but those interest payments come from our taxes and some from federally guaranteed mortgages.)
