Thanks for the time & energy it took to answer my questions. Right you are - 10 years later is the wrong time to reconstruct basis!
Regarding the original split of GDT & LLY - spinoff may have been the wrong word to use, I have only my brokerage statement to go by, and it refers to the transaction as an " exchange offer tender ". I retained 67 shares of LLY out of the original 100, and I exchanged 33 shares of LLY for 115 shares of GDT. Does that change matters regarding basis?
I am assuming 33% of LLY basis became the basis for the 115 Shares GDT.
