<<Lawyers for three Somali men accused of killing four Americans aboard a yacht claim the deaths resulted from actions by the U.S. Navy and the FBI.

Defense lawyers say an unstable situation was created by what they call "aggressive actions" by the Navy and a failure to properly negotiate with Somalis aboard the yacht Quest.>>

Apparently these claims were made on "International Talk to A Pirate Day."

heh....translation: you didn't give us a big ransom andlet us go freee- so we killed our hostages....

I'd tie them to a stake in the desert on a termite mound and watch 'em die an appropriate death....after we have a trial and find them guilty.......

They should have been shot dead o the spot....get some snipers in there and just kill 'em.

I would suppose that the lawyers will subpoena everyone on the ship and who participated in any way in the capture of the pirates, expecting that they will be taken away from their duties around the world to cool their heals waiting for a court to hear their testimony.

Just guessing that the trial will cost $10 million-$100 million.

Even if a US Navy ship no longer has a yard arm from which pirates may be hanged, I'd be surprised if the average bosun couldn't coonjure up a means to carry out justice for characters like these in a simple and economical fashion that might actually have some deterrence value.

Yes, just execute them without trial. That will set an example.

Of what, Im not sure.

I have no doubt the US Navy could organize a trial.

Is there a significant difference between the use of drone
attacks by the US and NATO forces in Pakistan - from
Afghanistan and the execution of pirates on the high seas?

Curious how administrations of various ilks get themselves in
situations.

Something you'd expect from Vladimir Putin more than any U.S.
President - but things do change.

Really? Which US administrations in the past century or so have advocated hanging accused pirates at sea without trial?

That's why you let the Seal marksmen kill them all while they are holding hostages. No need for messy trials.

If they won't surrender and release the hostages, you take 'em out.
