Thanks for the reply.

If it's cheaper to deal directly with the fund, then why open a Roth IRA with a brokerage? Use it to trade only stocks? I was hoping to leave long term (retirement) investing to some funds. For shorter term investing, I would use my other account to trade stocks. Do I have the wrong idea?
