What with all the polls lately, I thought I would add one. I keep a ~20 to 25% bond allocation in high quality medium term bonds and CDs as "ballast" for my portfolio, but I opportunistically will plunge into any part of the credit spectrum (treasuries to distressed/defaulted) when the market is giving stuff away. I was curious as to others' motivations with respect to bond investing.
Portfolio diversification
Tamp down volatility of overall portfolio
I only/mostly invest in fixed income
Opportunistic/Value-driven
Other
