Jeez, including Hitler and Stalin as two of the most influencial people of the century may be literally correct but is it really appropriate? I mean, both of these megalomaniacs have been repudiated by history, and not much remains of their legacies.

My nomination for the list is Tim Berners-Lee, the Swiss scientist who devised the basic http technology that has fueled the explosive growth of the internet. Yes, this revolution has only been underway for a few years, and it comes at the end of the century, but it is clearly such a completly transformative revolution of almost every aspect of life in first world countries, and holds such promise to impact life in third world countries, that it will prove to be one of the most significant developments of this century.

Why don't we nominate people like Berners-Lee who have had a positive influence on the century? Why isn't Ghandi on the list? Or Dwight Eisenhower? Or Jonas Salk?
