The following post was submitted to the SRI board, but I'll put a copy here as there as some Dominion investors may be interested.

----------------------
If anyone is interested in investing in a power company that does NOT use nuclear energy, the choice appears to be somewhat slim. FWIW, I recently screened a port for someone who had the following power company stocks: AEP, CNL,D, DUK, SCG,WPS.

Of these companies, only CNL (Cleco Corporation) is nuclear free. Some not only operate nuclear power plants, but engage in extremely questionable practices, like processing weapons grade plutonium into a reactor fuel (e.g. DUK).

CNL, which grew out of a Louisiana based power company, and is now expanding out of state, uses only coal and gas. Coal of course is no friend to the atmoshpere (and all of us under it), but it arguably has less catostrophic implications than nuclear.

Of course many of the readers of this board would probably be most interested in renewable energy such as wind, solar, etc. But for those who wish to operate a simple nuclear screen, then you may want to check out CNL.

Incidently I find it amazing that 6 out 7 leading power companies are using nuclear. If the true costs of this energy source are ever shifted to the corporations responsible for them, and in turn their shareholders, they can hardly be expected to make sensible investments.

Regards,
Otto
