If you're in the Southeast, look into Powertel ( I wanted to get a phone for emergency purposes [long story short my pregnant wife will be in Atlanta while I am in Boston and need immediate notification of her labor when it comes!], so I wanted a cheap plan with no contract which made Nokia available. Although SprintPCS would have been best for me (200 minutes for $20 a month). I could not get a Nokia phone through them. My experience was similar to those mentioned in the above posts. I got the impression that there was a complete lack of communication between SprintPCS/Radio Shack and Nokia, and that that was how SprintPCS wanted it. However, Powertel was all too happy to acommodate me. Although I get fewer minutes (120 for $30) I got a (new) Nokia 5190 for $79.99 with a leather case and car charger thrown in.

I looked also at AT&T, VerizonWireless and BellSouth--all 3 were more expensive than Powertel and at least Verizon (and I think the others, too) required a contract of at least 1 year.

I've just had the serveice a few days, but it looks like the best option for me.
