PPR (Pilgram Prime Rate Trust) pays about 9% interest monthly and is safer than most corporate bonds. What it invests in is Senior Notes (loans mostly to A and BBB and BB companies that are backed up by equipment or by property). PPR limits its investment by amount per company and by amount per industry, so risk is low. Money magazine lists this as one of about 5 places to "Park" your money in uncertain times. I have a fairly sizeable chunk in my IRA as part of my fixed income portion (I reinvest the dividend in more stock which PPR gives you at a 5% discount). It is hard to get 9% with as little risk as here.
