A Foolish Interview with AceKewl

|The Fool:||What do you fear most?|
|The Fool:||What was the most significant discovery of the last century?|
|The Fool:||If you could go back in time and witness one event in history, what would you go back and see?|
|AceKewl:||This is a tough one. Its either the 1992 Peach Bowl or the wipeout I took at Guiones in Playa Nosara, Costa Rica in March of 1992. I just want to count how many seconds I was down. I think it was well over 30 seconds. It was a 2-wave holddown. I took off late on a monster, and was pitched. My chest hit my board, the board snapped and I blacked out. I was unconscious for a short period and resumed consciousness underwater. In my groggy state, I couldn't figure out which way was up. Then I saw a bright light and thought, "This is it, the proverbial bright light at the end of the tunnel." Then I realized the bright light was the sun and that was the way to the surface. So I climbed my leash. It would be a shame to drown because of stupidity.|
|The Fool:||What's your favorite activity (within the realm of good taste)?|
|AceKewl:||I love to surf. Been surfing for over 20 years. There is nothing I can find on God's green earth (well, maybe pulling the trigger on a buy order of a stock with a P/E of 1200 selling for $350 a share) to match the feeling you have when you take off on a perfect wave and ride it to the beach. I like to imagine that the wave is my canvas, my board is the brush, and I'm painting a masterpiece. The cool thing is that I get to paint 20 or so masterpieces every good surf session. Would Michelangelo have produced the same quality of work with the possibility that 100,000 gallons of paint could fall on his head at any given time? I think not.|
|The Fool:||Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone?|
|AceKewl:||No, I'm convinced he was working with those aliens that crashed at Roswell.|
|The Fool:||What's the best product you use that most people don't know about?|
|AceKewl:||Breyer's fat-free ice cream|
|The Fool:||Make a confession.|
|AceKewl:||Alright, I admit it. I like to watch pro wrestling. Even paid $30 a ticket to see a live event recently.|
|The Fool:||What, in your opinion, are some of life's big mysteries?|
Mystery #1. Why can't a country that can speak to people on the face of the moon offer me a decent signal on a cell phone at an affordable price?
Mystery #2. What happened to the Braves' bats during the NLCS in '98?
|The Fool:||What's your favorite movie, and why?|
|AceKewl:||Its a tie between Enter the Dragon and A Fistful of Dollars. Why? Bruce Lee and Clint Eastwood. In second place (or would it be third place?) is "Booty Call".|
|The Fool:||As you were growing up (or now, raising children), did your family have any distinctive rituals or practices others might do well to emulate?|
|AceKewl:||My family always ate dinner together. I think spending that amount of time together each day is important for a family to maintain healthy relationships. Additionally, eating together would give parents some idea of what their kids are eating. Have you seen how many fat kids there are today?|
|The Fool:||Give a short description of your best and/or worst vacation.|
My best vacation was a recent trip to Costa Rica. I carried my fiancee down there and made an honest woman of her. Well, OK, she was honest before the trip. What I mean is that we were married in CR. While I was there, I did the following, ranked according to importance (although 1 & 2 are close).
1. Got married
2. Surfed perfect 6' Witches Rock and 6-8' Langosta. Surfed epic Playa Negra the day of my wedding.
3. Didn't injure myself enough to require medical attention (which is a first, although I cut my foot on a fin and received a nice hole in my knee courtesy of a shallow reef).
4. Got the best tube ride of my life at Tulin.
5. Surfed some slammin' Dominical beachbreak. That stuff is as hollow as Puerto Escondido.
I don't ever think I've had a "bad" vacation.
|The Fool:||What's been your best investment to date and how did you discover it?|
|AceKewl:||America Online. My dad gave me 10 shares.|
