The Fool: How'd you find out about the Fool? (Make your answer as colorful and truthful as possible.)
JoaquinK: Taking care of business one Sunday morning I looked at the back page of the MONEY section of the Sunday edition of the Arizona Daily Star(or Arizona Red Star depending on your political leanings). To my surprise I saw a page dedicated to Foolishness in investing. The writing and information caught my attention so I researched it a bit and found this website.
The Fool: What's your biggest pet peeve?
JoaquinK: Careless drivers of automobiles who, for some reason unbeknownst to me, think it's funny to terrorize motorcycle riders and start left turns in front of said motorcycle rider and cause said rider to crash and go to the hospital and ruin what was a perfectly gorgeous fire engine red 1991 Honda VFR 750F in PRISTINE condition to the tune of over $7,000. Oh yeah, I hate run-on sentences too. :)
The Fool: Share with us your best money-saving secret -- cutting coupons, sneaking candy into the movies, shopping on Wednesday and pretending you're over 65?
JoaquinK: Buy the beer or drinks before you go to the bar; heck you can have a 6-pack for the price of 2 drinks inside.:)
Looking around and always asking for a sale price even when a big ticket item isn't on sale - it works! Buy a used car(saved over $7K on a Maxima just cuz it had 6500 miles on it). Limit yourself to a home at 80% of what you qualify for and use the extra money for early interest payments. Streamline(refinance for $300) whenever rates drop.
The Fool: Which celebrity or public figure (past or present) do you most look like?
JoaquinK: Umm....Grizzly Adams???? Merlin Olson????? I dunno.
The Fool: Did you ever do something as a child that you look back on now and say, 'Wow, I'm lucky even to be alive after that!'
JoaquinK: Once I was water skiing at Lake Powell and I had had enough so I dropped the rope. When my step-sister came back by to pick me up she went past me almost hitting me with the bow of the boat but I pushed away. Not scary you say? Well how about when she realized she was past me and put the boat in reverse and brought the propeller right towards me. Thankfully my step-mom didn't hate me as much as my step-sister apparently did and she jumped over and shut off the engine with the boat just about 2 feet away from me.
The Fool: What's been your best investment to date and how did you discover it?
JoaquinK: IBM stock. Rolled in 10% of my income through the employee purchase plan when it was at non split adjusted market price of $40-55/share and I got it at 85% of that too boot! WOOHOO!! Closed at 188 today.
:)
The Fool: Do you have a favorite company or stock which the worldwide Foolish community should know about -- and why?
JoaquinK: IBM and INTEL are the two to go with. Watch out as storage requirements grow - IBM is the leader there. Mainframes are dead and it's gonna kill IBM? What do you think the majority of the internet is supported by?
Desktop client/server combos? Ummm...guess again.
